Donate a Horse

Most of our therapy horses are donated to the farm. A few have been purchased with specifically designated funds. Each horse is carefully screened prior to a 6-8 week trial process. During this period, staff and volunteers train and acclimate the new horses to the program. At the end of this trial period, the horses are evaluated for acceptance into the program.

If you are considering donating your horse, we place a priority on geldings that are quiet and steady, serviceably sound at the walk and trot and they must be over 5 years old. Original owners have first right of refusal upon a horse’s retirement from the program.

Horse Care

Horses receive ample turn out and every horse has a box stall that is cleaned daily. Each horse’s medical and nutritional needs are assessed by our equine director and veterinarian. Additionally, our horses receive specialized hoof and dental care from the best in the business. On average, it costs approximately $5,000 per year per horse to cover each horse’s care. If you are interested in sponsoring all or part of a horse’s care, please go to our sponsorship pages.

Our Facility

Fieldstone Farm has 44 stalls, an outdoor riding arena, a dividable, heated indoor arena (80 x 200), a 3/4-mile carriage trail (also used for trail riding), a round pen, many pastures for turnout, seven grooming stalls and two wash stalls. The state-of-the-art facility is 48,000 square feet and is one of the largest centers of its kind in the United States.
